Allergy Awareness Week supports the thousands of New Zealanders who live with asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis – symptoms of allergies to every-day things such as food, pollens, house dust-mites and insect stings.

New Zealand has some of the highest rates of allergies in the world. If left untreated these can have a significant impact on quality of life for many, particularly children. Some allergies can even cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction.

There is no cure and currently it is not understood why allergies are increasing at such an alarming rate.
Fundraising is crucial to help Allergy New Zealand support thousands of Kiwi children and families with advice, education and support, everyday.

Northern Arena Logo -web

Northern Arena's charity for 2013 is Allergy New Zealand which came about as a result of becoming more aware of the seriousness of allergies and difficulties encountered by our patrons and staff.

Whilst we understood that chlorine could affect sensitive skin we were not aware of the extent of the issue.  Since opening in January 2011 we have had a lot of feedback regarding this matter, and how much better our pools are for our patrons and their children.

This is due to the fact that we treat our water with ultra violet light, and as such we are able to use significantly less chlorine than typical pools.

We wanted to align ourselves with Allergy New Zealand as we became acutely aware of increased numbers of people living with allergies, in fact 1 in 3 people in Australia and New Zealand are affected at some time in their lives.

We felt Allergy New Zealand was a perfect fit with our principles and warranted more exposure and support where it would otherwise be overlooked and not considered a real problem.

Throughout 2013 we will be holding various fundraising events, raising awareness and giving you, the public, the opportunity to donate.

Payroll giving for individuals

Payroll giving, where offered by your employer, gives you the opportunity to donate to approved donee organisations direct from your pay and receive immediate tax credits that reduce your PAYE payable. You don't need to wait until the end of the year to claim your tax credit.
In other words for every $10 donated, your PAYE is automatically reduced by $3.33.
Only employers who electronically file their employer monthly schedule and deduction form can choose to offer payroll giving to their employees.

Allergy New Zealand is an approved donee organisation.
