Why should you join?
Recent research has found that allergy sufferers who belong to a support group are far less likely to suffer from a life-threatening allergic reaction because they have access to relevant information and the support of others in a similar situation.
Allergy affects more than one million New Zealanders and is increasing in prevalence. Allergy can be hereditary, and if you have a family history of allergy (eczema, asthma, hay fever, or food allergy) you are likely to have inherited the potential to develop allergies.
The cost of allergy is significant, albeit largely hidden, and impacts mainly on sufferers and their families.
The good news is that help and support is available through Allergy New Zealand!
By joining Allergy New Zealand, you not only have access to the latest information on allergies, you will also have the support of others who can give help through sharing ideas and experiences. You are not alone.
We provide information, education and support to people with allergies and their families; and represent their interests, for example in the media and to policy makers.
Allergy New Zealand also provides information, education resources and programmes about allergies to a wide range of health and education professionals, and organisations such as schools and DHBs. We also advise on patient and/or consumer perspectives to government agencies and the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
We are the only national organisation with an exclusive focus on allergy in New Zealand and have the support of a Medical and Scientific Panel. We are also a founding member of the international Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Alliance, a network of national food allergy support organisations across 10 countries including Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Europe and Japan. Food Allergy is a global problem, and through the Alliance we are able to share the latest information and research and work together internationally in all areas which impact on food allergy sufferers.
Strength in numbers
However Allergy New Zealand is reliant on members contributions, fundraising, sponsorship and donations, as well as many volunteers, to provide its extensive range of services, resources and support to the more than one million of us with allergies. There is also strength in numbers, and the more members, the more effective our voice on behalf of all people living with allergies.
In return for your membership subscription you will have access to free information and support, discounts on a wide-range of products and resources, invitations to attend our annual AGM and National Conference and other educational seminars, and the opportunity to participate in, and support, a hard-working organisation.
