Wayne Bennett - Master Coach

60 year old Wayne Bennett is considered to be one of the greatest rugby league coaches of all time - and he has a record that backs it up!

After his playing days, which included playing seven games for Queensland in State of Origin matches, two games for Australia and for Huddersfield in England, Wayne took up coaching.

He mad his debut as the Queensland coach in 1986 and although the Reds lost the series he was retained for a further two years and was victorious in 1987 and 1988.
In 1987 he was the co-coach of the Canberra Raiders side that lost the end of year Winfield Cup Grand Final to Manly 18 - 8.

The following year he was appointed as Head Coach of the Brisbane Broncos for their introductory season in the Winfield Cup.

This was to be one of the most successful individual coaching reigns of any team sport worldwide as Wayne led the Brisbane Broncos to six premierships over a 20 consecutive year period with back to back wins in 1992-3-4.

In 1996 he resumed as coach of the Queensland Reds and was also selected to coach the national team - The Kangaroos.

In 2001 he again took up the challenge of representative coaching with the Queensland team famously recalling Allen Langer back to the Maroons for the third and deciding game, in the State of Origin series that year, which Queenlsand won.

Other coaching successes include an assistant coach role for our very own New Zealand Kiwis who won the world cup final in 2006.

Wayne is known for his steely approach to the TV coverage of premiership and representative games along with his unwillingness to give in-depth interviews. However there is much more to Wayne Bennett than meets the eye.

So, at last, here is a fantastic opportunity to see and listen to one of the greatest coaches of all time as he tells you of his successes and his failures on and off the field.
